Lafayette's Return: The “Boy General," the American Revolution, and the Hermione celebrated the ship which Marquis de Lafayette rode back to the U.S. in 1780. Celebrated as a hero and important figure of the American Revolution, Lafayette's ship, the Hermione sailed to the South Street Seaport on a summer tour in summer 2015 in parallel with the exhibition. The exhibition chronicled Lafayette’s life and his close friendship with George Washington and celebrated his devotion to the American cause. Organized in four sections, Lafayette’s Return explored his interest in the ideals of enlightment and the American civic equality.
