Art as Activism: Graphic Art from the Merrill C. Berman Collection presented a selection of beautiful graphic posters from the early 1930s to the 1970s. The posters illustrate an era of political activism that relied on tactile print methods of the pre-digital era. Major topics covered by the exhibition included The Great Depression, WWII, civil rights, the Vietnam War and anti-communist rhetoric. the posters display a uniformity in their radical, bright designs. The clean lines and graphic imagery were meant to stir up audiences and call attention to injustice. Featured artists in the exhibition included Emory Douglas and Hugo Gellert. Brilliant Colors and violent imagery were used to inform, and engage people to stand against injustice.
